About our checks
If you found us in your logs: someone who looks after your website asked us to tell them when it stops answering.
What the request is
A single GET request for one page, sent with this User-Agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BionicUptime/1.0; +https://bionicuptime.com/about-our-checks)
We follow at most ten redirects, read at most 256 KB of the page, wait at most ten seconds, and run no JavaScript. If the site sets a cookie while redirecting us, we send it back for the rest of that one check, as a browser would, and then forget it. We never submit forms, sign in, or request anything else on the site. We keep whether the page answered, the status code and how long it took; we do not keep the page itself.
How often
Once a minute for each address someone monitors, alternating between our two checking locations. When a request fails, the other location checks once, and the first checks once more about ten seconds later, so an outage costs you at most three requests in under a minute.
Separately, about once a day, our app (not the two checking locations) reads the domain's expiry date from the public registration record (RDAP), through rdap.org and your registry's own RDAP server. That request goes to the registry, never to your website.
Where from
Two locations on different networks, over IPv4 only:
- Chicago:
190.102.110.109 - New Jersey:
143.198.162.144
How to stop it
Write to us from the support page with the address being checked. If the website is yours and you did not ask for it to be monitored, we will stop checking it and tell the account that added it. Blocking the two addresses above also works; the person monitoring your site will then see it as unreachable.
If you look after websites too
This is Bionic Uptime. It emails you when a website you look after stops answering, and only once two locations and a retry agree (how an outage is confirmed). See a real website being monitored, no sign-up. 3 websites are free, forever.
