Bionic Uptime and WP Umbrella: what is actually different
WP Umbrella is a maintenance dashboard for WordPress sites: updates, backups, client reports, and uptime monitoring, priced per site. If you want all of that, it is a sensible choice. If you mainly want to know when a client's site is down, this page says plainly where we differ, and where WP Umbrella is the better choice.
| Feature | WP Umbrella | Bionic Uptime |
|---|---|---|
| Price | €1.99 per website a month (shown as $2.19 in US dollars), with no minimum. A 14-day trial, no card | 3 websites, checked every 60 seconds, forever, no card. Portfolio: $12 a month, 20 websites |
| For 3, 12 or 20 sites | About $6.57, $26.28 or $43.80 a month at $2.19 a site | Free, $12 or $12 a month |
| What you get | Updates, backups, client reports, uptime monitoring, and certificate and domain expiry monitoring in one dashboard | Monitoring only: uptime, page content, certificates and domain expiry |
| How often | You choose, every 1 to 60 minutes, from the EU, US East, US West, Asia or Australia | Every 60 seconds, from Chicago and New Jersey on two different companies' networks |
| Before an outage alert | Checks from outside the site, from a region you choose | Two locations plus a retry must agree within 45 seconds. The email says what each location saw |
| Who is told | Email or Slack, to the recipients you add to an alert | You, plus up to 3 more people per website, such as the client or a colleague, each confirming by email. Optionally one Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams or Google Chat channel for the whole account |
| Which sites | WordPress sites you connect to WP Umbrella | Any website, WordPress or not, checked from outside. Nothing to install on the site |

Choose WP Umbrella if
- you want updates, backups and client reports for your WordPress sites in the same place as monitoring,
- you look after more than 20 sites: our largest plan is 20,
- you have 4 or 5 sites and want to pay per site: that comes to less than $12 a month,
- your clients' visitors are in Europe, Asia or Australia and you want checks from there. Ours run from two places in the United States.
Choose Bionic Uptime if
- you mainly want to know when a site is down: 3 websites are free, forever, and 20 are $12 a month,
- some of the sites are not WordPress,
- you want one plain email per real outage, saying what was seen and from where (see the exact email), which you can forward to the client as it is.
You can run both. Our checks come from outside the site, so they do not conflict with WP Umbrella, and our free WordPress plugin is optional.
